Jeff Stein is a music video pioneer and award-winning film and television director. He’s been engaged in new entertainment tech since he sold a patented music video innovation to Apple. He is a founding member and Chief Alchemist of Magic Leap, which Rolling Stone called, “the hottest tech company in America”. His role there has involved him with next-level new tech and immersive, location-based experiences and collaborations with ground-breaking media companies like Magnopus, Weta, and Meow Wolf.
Jeff was still in his teens when he wrote, produced, and directed The Kids Are Alright, the classic, award-winning documentary of The Who, which made Rolling Stone’s list of Greatest Rock ‘n’ Roll Movies of All Time. Jeff’s video of The Cars, You Might Think (I’m Crazy) won the first MTV Best Video of the Year Award and became the first music video added to the Permanent Collection of the Museum of Modern Art. His video for Tom Petty’s Don’t Come ‘Round Here No More, a rock’ n’ roll version of the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, was recognized as #5 in Time Magazine’s list of MTV’s Best Music Videos. Jeff has directed rock icons from Little Richard to Bruce Springsteen and film stars from Woody Harrelson to Will Smith. His commercial, video, and long-form work has been recognized by dozens of other awards including several Emmys, a Peabody, and Cable Ace Awards.
