Two years before Ken Arnold saw nine “flying saucers” over Mount Shasta, six F6F Hellcat fighter aircraft screamed up into the thin air far above their designed operational ceiling, clawing desperately to reach the altitude of a massive aerial intruder. The gigantic UFO hovered over one of the most sensitive and secret American installations of World War II: the Hanford, Washington nuclear weapons plant. In July 1945, Naval aviator and war hero Rolan Powell, along with five other pilots, scrambled their fighters to intercept an unidentified radar bogey detected high above the Hanford plant. What followed was an incredible mission to engage an enormous UFO, described by Powell as being the size of two WWII-era aircraft carriers molded together and partially obscured by artificial clouds. In this presentation, you will hear the death-bed testimony of the flight leader of that fighter group as he describes this first-ever combat mission against a possible extraterrestrial threat. This wasn’t Powell’s only UFO experience. Years later he had another unparalleled sighting from the deck of a Brazilian aircraft carrier sailing in the Atlantic Ocean. This second sighting is in important respects unique among all other reports of unidentified anomalous phenomena. I will explore the stunning details about UFO/UAPs that Powell’s two sightings reveal, and consider some of their implications for us in the newly-unfolding march towards UAP disclosure.
